LocoRoco on the 5800. Wow, sony have ported a few psp/playstation titles to mobile platforms, which seems an odd strategy. Still its basically the same game, sadly using touch controls rather than accelerometer, Its been ported in portrait only too, though its not an issue with this title. But landscape and motion controls would of greatly improved it. It struggles and isn’t as slick as the psp versions but is a fairly good time passer for fans of the blobs. Music is sadly a bunch of midi files, not even the original tunes, so no singling loco rocos :( but if any game can manage with plinky music it’s loco roco.

When Conversions go bad. Why oh why oh why, did this conversion of the Transformers revenge of the fallen, java game get left in portrait mode. Your hand covers the character, the top half of the screen is unused. Theres no reason why the original 240x320 aspect game wouldn’t of worked perfectly in landscape mode. BAD BAD BAD - avoid.
JoikuSpot is the awesome - no questions, It’s €15 to turn your phone into a wifi hotspot. Which WebNWalk plus allows. Theres a not too secret voucher on install, not sure if its useable for joikuspot though. File under ESSENTIAL.
Some new installs :)
The usual google must haves.
MyPhone is bonkers fun for about 2 mins then the novely wains.
Ai Yi Eye is a mini casual game, well priced at £1. At least ovi is starting to mimic App Store, though there’s still way too many expensive apps. It reminds me of a tech demo I did for a game a few years ago - it never got more than a day spent on it so theres not much too it. Bit like this game, which looks great, but isn’t much fun. And the 5800 struggles to rotate the bitmaps.
LocoRoco,Transformers and Joikuspot in seperate posts :)
Also in the new packaging is this mini 3 inch CD, but I’ve no idea whats on it. As its PC only and I don’t have a PC. Well I have a netbook but its not got a cd drive! :) still sure its nice enough for those that do, I’m probably not that typical.
My Stuff, but I can’t get it. I had a nokia N97 for a week, it didn’t win me over, and I returned it. During that week, I tried out OVI store, I bought a few apps. Now on my New OVI powered 5800, I should just be able to reload them. Look there they are, in the ‘My Stuff’ section. But the only one i can access is the ‘free’ app N97 Compass, which is both free anyway and no use on a 5800!! Come on OVI sort out re-downloading apps. Otherwise the My Stuff section is kinda pointless. I understand its in the process of rolling out - but I would imagine popular apps like Gravity and Tetris would get ‘special’ fast track treatment.
Update! ok so no ovi store preloaded, maps is v2. But clicking on app update gives me ovi store, latest flash, nokia messaging (hopefully its matured a bit on v5 now) and mail for exchange updates - no ovi maps though.
Download! is still on the main menu, but all it does now is tell you to download ovi store.
Micro Micro USB cable: This I Like a-lot, its a really diddy usb cable, saves cost, materials, is greener and easier to carry around in your gadge-bag. Good substitute nokia,
Back in 5800 land. I got a new 5800 today, interestingly now the packages comes without the video stand, hard cover or any extra styli, though you still get the plectrum. First job was to update the firmware. As it was on v20.something, so be interested to see if the v30 software adds ovi store/maps.
N97 or 5800 comes with music?
So I’ve been using an E71 for a while now, and I generally love it - but i miss the quality camera of the 5800 - yes its not the best camera in the world but for casual use its head and shoulders above the E71. The N97 is out now, to univeral disinterest. Its a nice enough phone but not quite wowing me. I’m tempted back to the 5800, its not a perfect phone but i liked it. And with the added comes with music service its attractive, yes i know comes with music is DRM bollocks. But i see it as a way og getting music I’m not that bothered by, temporary music i’ll listen to for a while etc. 50 quids not much to pay for the ability to download new music on the go. Why didn’t the 5800 launch with a comes with music option, likewise the N97. It’s almost like nokia dont want people to use the service.
or maybe should i just get an iPhone 3G [S].
